Why has a course not been marked as complete?

Understand some of the common reasons why a learner’s course completion may not be recorded correctly in the Learning Management System.

In a small number of cases, a learner may report that they have completed a course, but the completion has not been recorded in the Learning Management System.

This is uncommon, but can happen for several reasons related to internet connectivity, browser behaviour, course configuration, or how the course itself was designed.

Poor or unstable internet connection

Learners completing training with a slow or unstable internet connection may experience issues saving course progress or completion data.

If the learner loses connection to the LMS while completing the course, the completion may not be recorded correctly.

Where possible, learners should:

  • Use a stable internet connection
  • Avoid switching networks while completing training
  • Allow the course to finish loading fully before closing the browser window

Course completion requirements were not met

Different courses use different completion rules.

For example, a course may require learners to:

  • View all pages
  • Complete all activities
  • Pass a quiz or assessment
  • Complete a mandatory feedback form or evaluation

In some cases, learners may believe they have finished the course without completing one of the required steps.

Examples include:

  • Closing the course before reaching the final completion screen
  • Skipping pages in a course that requires 100% page completion
  • Completing the learning content but not submitting the course evaluation

The LMS window was closed accidentally

Courses open in a separate course window while maintaining a connection to the LMS in the background.

If the learner closes the LMS window or tab while the course is still open, the connection between the course and the LMS may be interrupted. This can prevent the completion from being saved correctly.

Learners should avoid closing any browser tabs or windows until the course has fully completed.

Third-party SCORM course design

The Learning Management System supports third-party SCORM content created outside VinciWorks.

The course author determines exactly when and how a course reports completion to the LMS. Because of this, completion behaviour can vary between courses.

If completion issues are affecting a specific third-party course repeatedly, we recommend reviewing the SCORM package with the course provider or authoring tool vendor.

Need to update a learner’s record manually?

Administrators can manually update a learner’s completion status if needed.

Still experiencing issues?

If learners continue to experience completion problems, please contact support@vinciworks.com with:

  • The learner’s name
  • The course name
  • The approximate completion date and time
  • Screenshots or error messages (if available)
  • Browser and device information

This will help us investigate the issue more efficiently.
